Lawn Care & Maintenance
Keep your Renaissance Lakes lawn lush, green, and healthy year-round.
Best Grass Seeds for your Renaissance Lakes lawn
Bermudagrass
WarmWhy it works here
Extremely drought-tolerant and handles high foot traffic. Recovers fast from damage.
Zoysiagrass
WarmWhy it works here
Creates a dense, "carpet-like" feel. More shade-tolerant than Bermuda and very weed-resistant.
Tall Fescue
CoolWhy it works here
The only grass that stays green year-round in Atlanta. Handles the North GA "transition" weather well.
Centipedegrass
WarmWhy it works here
"The Lazy Man's Grass." Requires very little fertilizer and grows slowly.
Renaissance Lakes Community Standard
Per HOA ARC guidelines, front lawns must consist of Bermudagrass only to maintain a uniform community aesthetic.
How to Plant
Soil Test
Atlanta's red clay is often acidic. Get a test from the UGA Extension office and add Lime if your pH is below 6.0.
Prep the Bed
Remove weeds and debris. Till the top 2–3 inches of soil to break up the heavy clay.
Leveling
Rake the area flat to avoid low spots where water (and seeds) will pool.
Sowing
Use a spreader. Apply half the seed walking North-to-South and the other half East-to-West for even coverage.
Raking
Lightly rake the seed into the soil (no deeper than 1/4 inch).
Watering
Critical: Water 2–3 times daily (short bursts) for the first 3 weeks to keep the soil surface moist.
Planting Windows
Soil must be 65°F–70°F for germination.
Allows roots to establish before first frost.
